Performing and teaching as both a violinist and violist, Scot Moore works in a variety of musical genres. Active in early, classical, and new music communities, he is also an experienced performer in folk, rock, jazz, latin, pop, and contemporary improvisation. With a wide range of stylistic proficiency developed over 15 years of professional performance, Scot has enjoyed working with such notable and varied artists as Natalie Merchant, Neal Schon, Dawn Upshaw, Peter Serkin, Amanda Palmer, Andre Nickatina, and Bill T. Jones.

Scot has worked with a broad array of the worlds finest composers and performers: Joan Tower, Pauline Oliveros, William Parker, George Tsontakis, Benjamin Boretz, Mason Bates, Don Byron, Tania Leon, Michael Harrison, David Lidov, Joseph Summer, John Halle, Aki Takahashi, Harold Farberman, Kyle Gann, Pablo Ortiz, Richard Teitelbaum, Heather Masse, Dylan Mattingly, David Bloom, Steve Hackman, Oscar Cortez, Anders Parker, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Ian Flanigan, and Jherek Bischoff. Working with numerous student composers over the years he has given the opportunity for compositional workshops and premier performances of their work. Scot can be heard on releases from PBS, Cartoon Network, Hyperion, Navona, Nonesuch, Albany Records, Open Space, Recorded and Freed, Mantralogy, and various independent self releases. He has premiered music in collaboration with Contemporaneous, Da Capo Chamber Players, Bang On a Can All-Stars, One Found Sound, Mercury Soul, and Shattered Glass, and leads an active role in the promotion, production, and performance of new music. In the Historical Performance world he has collaborated with the Sebastians, TENET Vocal Artists, and Early Music New York, curating and performing concerts in New York and the Hudson Valley. From 2015-2018 he held the position of co-principal viola of The Orchestra Now, and in 2018 sat as assistant principal viola for the Grafenegg Academy Orchestra.

He has appeared in venues around the world, including the Mariinsky Theater, Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Berlin Konzerthaus, Prague Rudolfinum, NCPA Beijing, Shanghai Grand Theater, Kneisel Hall, Jordan Hall, Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney, Library of Congress, Beacon Theater, Greek Theater, Santa Barbara Bowl, The Fisher Center, Chicago Symphony Center, Harris Theater, and Chicago Theater, among numerous others.

Production Management

Scot has worked as personnel and production manager for Darcy James Argue, Steve Hackman, and Tyshawn Sorey, and has led the music direction and production management of various education and performance initiatives based in the Hudson Valley and New York City, having held positions as the artistic director for Kids Need Music Benefit Series and as the producing artistic director for Music Mentors Program. His extensive live event production experience began with work as a production associate at Bard College’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and Catskill Jazz Factory. Scot is a veteran recording artist with extensive experience acting as both performer and executive producer.

Education

Scot earned his BA, BM, MA, and Performance Certificate from Bard College. During his years as a student, Scot worked extensively with members of the Beaux Arts Trio, Julliard, Orion, Mendelssohn, Pacifica, Colorado, Tashi, and Guarneri quartets, as well as notable pianists Gilbert Kalish, Seymour Lipkin, and Peter Serkin. Scot's past teachers include Edward Kreitman, Cyrus Forough, Desiree Ruhstrat, Laurie Smukler, Daniel Phillips, Luis Garcia Renart, and Marka Gustavsson.

Current Locale

In the Bay Area, Scot leads an active performance schedule, appearing with Mercury Soul, Awesöme Orchestra Collective, Classical Revolution, the Musical Art Quintet, San Francisco Philharmonic, Santa Cruz Symphony, One Found Sound, and in collaboration with numerous other local artists. Scot currently holds a section viola position with Symphony San Jose.
